JERUSALEM (AP) - A United Nations official estimates that at least a quarter of the 400 Palestinians killed by Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip are civilians.
Maxwell Gaylard, U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinians Territories, says that another 2,000 people have been wounded and a "significant number" of the dead are women and children.
The U.N. told journalists Friday that despite the increased flow of humanitarian supplies, Gaza inhabitants still face a food and medical crisis.
Israel has said it has confined its attacks to Hamas militants to stop the firing of rockets into southern Israel.
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni (TSIH'-pee LIHV'-nee) said Thursday in Paris that there was no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
