Netanyahu's statement about Palestinian statehood is devoid of content. The declaration was accompanied by an enormous list of preconditions which are designed for its not implementation. The true core of the speech is the continuation of settlement construction.
The bombastic declaration of Prime Minister Netanyahu, regarding his supposed willingness to accept the creation of Palestinian state, is utterly devoid of content. It is made conditional upon an enormous list of pre-conditions which are not implementable. Nor are they intended to be implemented – rather, their full aim and purpose are to provide an alibi for no implementation and no serious negotiations. The one concrete and clear-cut pledge made in Netayahu's speech was the declaration of continuing settlement construction in the name of "natural growth". As long as building in the settlements continue, it is clear that a true peace process cannot so much as start.
