Who is responsible here?

from Gush Shalom

The tear gas, shot so abundantly on non-violent demonstrators in Bil'in Is not even considered against racist thugs who burn fields

It’s nice to hear ministers and senior police and army officers condemn the settler rampage. But if the speakers mean what they say, how come that they didn’t even try to make use of tear gas. Teargas is plentifully available in army and police armories and is used every week to attack non-violent demonstrations in Bil'in and Ni'ilin. For some reason it is not to be found in places where racist thugs burn fields and olive groves and assault Arabs for no reason but that they are Arabs.

The whole evacuation of "outposts" is no more than a charade, with the army knowing that the settlers will come back within the hour and doing nothing to stop them.

The officially proclaimed role of the army and police on the West Bank has always been to protect the settlers. This role, which is the cornerstone of the entire occupation regime, is apparently not left behind, creating the oxymoron of the army removing the very settlers whose body guards they are.
