Background:
The "Separation Fence" is winding between the Palestinian town of Beit Jala and the Israeli Gilo (built on lands confiscated from the Palestinians), with Wadi Ahmed between them. Dozens of metres above the creek is the span of bridge of "The Tunnel Road", on which travel is restricted to Israelis only and which is used mainly by settlers. Wadi Ahmed ends at the northern neighbourhood of Beit Jala. From the Jerusalem-Beit Jala Highway an unpaved road branches off, leading above the wadi and ending at a (usually closed) gate in Fence, about 200 metres from Beit Jala. Along the wadi is a large abandoned olive grove – "abandoned" because its owners can no longer cultivate it. In the"No Man's Land" live several Palestinian families, whose situation is difficult and complicated.
That is the difficult situation in which the Palestinians in this area have to live, already for years. The intention is to hold a protest demonstration, jointly by Israelis, Palestinians and a large number of International volunteers, a peaceful protest with intention of confronting the army. The demonstration is part of the "Peace Week" events, held by "Abraham's Children" between July 6 and 10. This is an annual event organized by "Abraham's Children", a movement advocating peace and reconciliation between all human beings and specifically between the believers of different religions. The Christian and Muslim communities in Beit Jala take part jointly in the event and invite religious communities and peace seekers in Israel to join in. Some two hundred visitors from abroad arrived for this year's Peace Week. Throughout the week, various activities will take place including: visits to refugee camps, meetings with public officials, a volunteer work day, a church service, a procession and a mass ceremony conveying a message of peace to all peoples of the world.
