U.S. Soldier From Oxford, Mississippi, Arrested in Japan for Deadly Hit and Run

Eyewitness News ABC 24

OKINAWA, JAPAN - A U.S. soldier from Oxford, Mississippi now faces charges in a fatal hit and run in Japan.

Authorities charged 27-year-old staff sergeant Clyde Gunn with negligence resulting in death. Japanese police say he was involved in the hit and run death of a 66-year-old man in Okinawa. They say staff sergeant Gunn raised suspicions when he took his military-registered car, which had dents and blood stains, to a repair shop.

Under an agreement between the two countries, American soldiers suspected of committing a crime off-base can be tried in a Japanese court.
