Vietnam asks Israel to stop expanding settlements in Palestine

The Palestine Telegraph

Ambassador Hoang Chi Trung, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam at the UN, has urged Israel to immediately stop expanding settlements and dismantle check-points in the West Bank. Ambassador Trung said at a United Nations debate in New York on November 30 that by establishing settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and building the separation wall, Israel has been violating international law and relevant UN resolutions. The action has also run counter to the peace roadmap sponsored by the UN, the US, Russia and the European Union, he added.

Mr Trung also raised deep concerns over the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip that has seriously violated UN conventions and international law as pointed out in the Goldstone report by the UN Fact-Finding Mission on the Gaza conflict.

"We welcome the November 6 UN General Assembly resolution that calls on the two parties to launch investigations as soon as possible in an effort to bring justice for victims," Mr Trung emphasised.

He urged relevant parties in Palestine to speed up the national reconciliation process as well as Palestine and Israel to resume peace negotiations soon to work out fair and sustainable solutions to the prolonged conflict in the Middle East.

The debate was chaired by UN General Assembly President Ali Abdussalam Treki in observation of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
