At least eight Palestinians were injured Wednesday when armed Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian village in the southern West Bank town of Hebron, witnesses and medical sources said.

Said Frangia, director of Alia hospital in the city, said that one of the wounded was in a serious condition and the seven others suffered from moderate and slight injuries.

Witnesses said one Palestinian resident was seriously wounded after the settlers opened fire at families of Safa village in northern Hebron. Palestinian ambulances succeeded to evacuate the casualties.

The residents threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the rampant settlers who attacked the village since the morning hours. Israeli soldiers escorted the folks of settlers who also destroyed houses and ravaged green crops, according to the witnesses.

Hebron Mayor Mustafa al-Natsha said the attack was planned in advance and the Israeli army provided protection for the colonizers.

The mayor also slammed the Palestinian security forces for not intervening. "Unfortunately, the security forces don't counter the settlers and they limit their tasks to the internal security of the people."
